چکیده

Photographic plates used in electron microscopy must have a high resolving power. The resolving power of photographic plates is usually expressed by the maximum number of resolved lines in 1 mm. This method of expressing resolving power is not always adequate for electron microscopy, particularly when the resolution of small spots is treated. The present experiment was carried out to study the minimum size of spots which can be recorded on photographic plates.

The Use of Radioautography and Electron Microscopy for the Localization of Tritium Label in Bacteria

Localization of tritium label in bacteria has been successfully demonstrated both at the intercellular level (1) and at the intracellular level (2). However the use of Kodak AR-10 (3) stripping emulsion gives rise to a complication in those experiments. The 2 # maximum range (4) of the/3-rays from tritium in this emulsion, plus the greater than 2 # thickness of the stripping emulsion itself, co...

AUTORADIOGRAPHY WITH THE ELECTRON MICROSCOPE A Procedure for Improving Resolution, Sensitivity, and Contrast

Autoradiographic techniques for use with the electron microscope have been developed and considerably improved in recent years. A review of this historical development is given by Meek and Moses (14), and a theoretical analysis of the problems involved by Pelc (17) and Caro (4). In this paper, we describe a method for preparing autoradiographic specimens, using a new, fine-grained emulsion and ...

High-resolution Autoradiography

Methods used in obtaining high resolution in autoradiography, with special emphasis on the technique of electron microscopic autoradiography, are described, together with control experiments designed to establish the optimum conditions or procedures. On the basis of these experiments the emulsion selected was Ilford L-4, with a crystal size slightly larger than 0.1 micron. It is applied to the ...

Monographs in Allergy

However, the two remaining articles are both written so as to be quite intelligible to bio-medical microscopists, and quite germane to their interests. Professor Ruska-one of the grandest of the grand old men of electron microscopy-has lucidly reviewed "Past and present attempts to attain the resolution limit of transmission electron microscope." The electron micrographs demonstrating 4 AO poin...
